Whey protein is actually a tremendous tool for those of you looking to lose weight. That’s why today, I am going to show you exactly how to use whey protein for weight loss. Here are the 7 best tips and steps for beginners. 1. Understand what whey protein actually is. Whey is the liquid part of milk that gets separated when cheese is made. If you’ve ever opened a yogurt container and have seen a watery substance at the top, this is whey protein. This liquid substance is what is turned into powder form to create whey protein. Just in case you’re wondering, this process also cuts out the 95% of the lactose so if you’re allergic to dairy, you really have nothing to fear. 2. Understand the different types of whey protein powder. There are three main forms of protein powder: whey concentrate, isolate, and hydrolestate. Concentrate is about 70-80% protein with some milk sugar and fat. Isolate is 90% protein and has a little less sugar and fat. Hydrolysate is also known as hydrolyzed whey, has virtually 0 sugar and fat, and is mixed with enzymes for the faster digestion into the blood stream. So, you may be wondering, does the type of protein matter? Not really. The minute differences between to two are not enough that it should cause you any stress or concern. Leave that sort of worrying for your overall diet and exercise routine. For what it’s worth, most of the studies are done using whey isolate and it’s what I use as well. 3. Understand why protein works so well for weight loss There are 3 reasons are particularly compelling… #1. It will keep you full. Protein can cut down sugar cravings by as much as 60%. #2. It’s easy. As long as you have a blender bottle on hand, all you need to do is add water. Which is great to have on the go or at work where eating healthy is more difficult. #3. It preserves lean muscle tissue when dropping weight. This ensures that when you do lose weight the majority of it is fat. We talk a lot about protein on this channel and this is just the short list of reasons why. 4. Whey protein has lots of other proven health benefits, which helps the body function better and makes weight loss easier. Things like: Improves muscle performance Lowers blood pressure Reduces symptoms of stress Helps you get in more water naturally And contains a small amount of antioxidants. Are additional reasons why whey protein is important and helpful for weight loss. 5. What are the best times to take whey protein? In order of importance. Take 30 minutes before or after your workouts. This has been shown to help with muscle development and recovery after a workout. Take 30 minutes before meals or dinning out. 1. Excercise Exercise keeps off the weight. Research shows that people who increase physical activity along with reducing calorie intake will lose more body fat that people who only diet. For confirmation, look at the National Weight Control Registry (NWCR), a database of 4,000 men and women who have lost 30 or more pounds and kept it off. Only 9 percent reached and maintained their weight-loss goal without exercise. Most people in the register chose walking as their form of exercise. 2. Eat breakfast The most effective diabetes diet includes breakfast. Skipping breakfast can lead to overeating later in the day when you become ravenous. This can sabotage weight-loss plans and cause blood sugar levels to surge. Studies show that eating breakfast, especially if it's cereal, is associated with better weight loss. A common characteristic among the NWCR participants is that most of them ate breakfast. 3. Cut calories The exact number of calories that people on a diabetes diet should consume depends on a number of factors, including age, gender, current weight, activity level, and body type. A reasonable goal for people with type 2 diabetes is between 1,200 and 1,800 calories per day for women and between 1,400 and 2,000 calories per day for men. 4. Feast on fiber Does your diabetes diet include lots of fiber? If so, you're doing your type 2 diabetes a favor. Generous amounts of fiber help lower blood sugar levels and speed weight loss. In one study, adults who consumed the most fiber-rich foods had the least amount of body fat. Aim for three servings per day of fiber-loaded fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains. Toss fiber-rich legumes, like chickpeas and black beans, into salads, chili, and soups. 5. Eat mini-meals A diabetes diet structured with three or more small meals daily is better than a diet plan that includes only one or two big meals. Large meals can cause blood sugar levels to surge, while eating smaller meals more frequently will keep glucose levels lower after eating. Plus, a diabetes diet consisting of mini-meals spread through the day will help control hunger and calorie intake, leading to faster weight loss.

It should always recommend an exercise program – Weight Loss without exercise is a recipe for disaster because following a diet without exercise will lead to loss of lean muscle tissue, loss of lean muscle tissue will lead to slower metabolism which in turn will make you gain all the weight back, loss of muscle would also mean that your body will not look toned anymore. There are a lot ads which say “Lose weight without exercise”, “Lose weight without workout”, “No gym lose weight” …Not a healthy idea as no exercise will only lead loss muscle which will only slow down your metabolism .For healthy weight loss you don’t have to do hardcore exercises but something as simple as brisk walking and body weight exercises should definitely be part of the program. 2. It should always recommend a balance diet – No weight loss program can be healthy if it does not recommend complete spectrum of nutrients. It should recommend carbs, it should recommend protein and healthy fat on daily basis, the ratios may vary but it should include all these nutrients on daily basis. Following a crash diet will restrict the amount of nutrients to your system thereby leading to nutritional deficiencies like poor skin and hair quality, increasing the risk osteoporosis, elevated levels of bad cholesterol, increased risk of heart disease etc. Doing only low calorie protein diets or doing only low carb high protein diet or doing only mono diets will lead to nutritional deficiencies and will only mess up your metabolism in long run. 3. It should set realistic goals in terms of Weight Loss – There are lots of programs which will promise you insane amount of weight loss in a quick span of time and they may even be successful but such drastic reduction of weight (in a short span of time) is not healthy and cannot be sustained in the long run, the moment you resume normal diet all the weight comes back. According to me healthy weight loss should be anywhere close to One kg or two pounds per week, I know it sounds less but if multiply this over a period of 2 months you have lost 8 kgs and if you take it further it can be as much as 12 -15 kgs in 4 months ….best part is you will be able to sustain it and still look healthy. 4. It should always recommend a lifestyle change – A diet that you cannot do for more than 7 days do you really think you can make it part of your lifestyle, lot of fad diets like low carb diet, high fat high protein diet are unsustainable to follow after a few weeks and cannot be made part of your lifestyle. Look for programs which recommend healthy habits like exercise, eating balanced diet on regular basis which can be made part of your lifestyle. 5. It should advocate health and fitness – Using chemicals and weight loss pills to lose weight quickly is not healthy at all because all medicines have side effects, not to forget you can’t be on medicines forever, the moment you are off them you gain all the weight back. When you are signing up for any weight loss program your first priority has be your health like how to reach your ideal weight, how to reduce bad cholesterol level, how it can help reach an optimal level of health and fitness. You cannot burn fat just by weight training if you have a poor diet. However, I know a lot of people that are under the impression that weight training can only be used to build muscle, but the truth is that there are ways for you to weight train in which you will burn way more fat than you ever could just by doing tons of cardio. When you do cardio you get to burn calories for the duration of your cardio session. So if you're running on the treadmill for half an hour you will burn calories during that half hour and maybe a few more calories for the next half hour while you're body returns to homeostasis. On the other hand with weight training you'll burn calories throughout the entire day. This is because your body will use what you eat to replenish glycogen stores in your muscles, it will also rebuild the muscles with amino acids from broken down proteins, and you'll experience epoc which is excess post exercise oxygen consumption. Or otherwise known as the after-burn effect. Another benefit of weight training is that by building muscle your metabolism will go up. Now even though you will experience all of these positive effects with traditional weight training. There are plenty of ways to take it up a notch and make your weight training workouts way more effective at burn fat. The first way is through a method know as peripheral heart action training. The goal of this type of training is to keep the blood circulating throughout the whole body. Usually this is accomplished by mixing upper body and lower body exercises back and forth within a circuit. An example of this would be to do an upper body exercise like bench press, then right away do Barbell squats, then follow that up with Bent over rows, and finish with walking lunges. There I would be doing upper, lower, upper, lower. By cycling between upper and lower your heart has to work harder to push blood back and forth between the muscles being worked. This means you're going to burn way way more calories than somebody that is doing traditional weight training. The other supposed benefit is that it prevents you from feeling too much burn in one muscle group. However, i think if you do this correctly you will definitely feel the burn. You don't have to limit yourself to upper and lower splits for peripheral heart action training. I think it's very important to work on building muscle when you're goal is to burn fat because building muscle will help with that by elevating your resting metabolism. To build muscle you have to go heavy. It's tough to go heavy when you're doing upper an lower exercises back to back because you're going to get really winded. So to help you build muscle while still burning more fat you can do a purely upper or lower body PHA Split. An example of an upper body PHA split would be to do a set of Inclined Dumbbell presses, followed by a superset for chest with dumbbell flies, followed by a Bent over dumbbell row, and finished with a superset for the back like reverse flies. You can do the same thing with your legs, just switch back and forth between working the front and the back of your hips and thighs. Another Amazing way that you can burn a ton more fat with weight training is by doing something that you all may have heard of, high intensity interval training. But I'm going to give you a way to structure your HIIT program to make it even more effective. Instead of just doing the more aerobic based exercises back to back for example burpees, plyometric lunges, rope slams, and squats jumps are all more aerobic exercises. Instead of just doing that, the more effective structure for burning fat would be to do a heavy weight training exercise, followed immediately by your more aerobic exercise. If you combine 3 of each into a 6 exercise circuit where you go back forth between an aerobic exercise, and a heavy anaerobic weight training exercise you will burn a ton of calories. A good example of this would be to do Barbell clean and presses, followed by burpees, followed by deep Barbell squats, followed by squat jumps, followed by T Bar rows, and finished with 45 seconds of mountain climbers. Besides the mountain climbers everything else you would do for 10 reps. If you do 3 sets of that circuit, I promise you'll be dead. And you'll burn a ton more calories then you ever could with a cardio based workout plan.
