Low Fat Diet vs Low Carb Diet: Which Is Better for You?

This is been one of the biggest debates recently with the rising popularity of macro tracking and IIFYM. Video summary: When looking at your diet setup there's 2 phases: Fat Loss and Muscle building Protein is changing based on the phase and scaling with your lean body mass. There's a lot of research backing that up. After Protein we determine the Fat intake, and put the rest of calories to carbs. Fat loss phase: If carbs are too low low during energy restriction it can negatively influence your training. And this would then reduce your ability to retain lean body mass. Fat intake recommendations for dieting based on research vary from 15- 25% of total calories. 15% is lower than ideal for most people, and it's not sustainable long term but it can work short term for 4-6 weeks. So typically 20-25% is used. After you choose fat 20-25% then you just invest all the rest of calories into training. For most people it will be fine to setup the diet with the minimum amount of fat necessary and then invest all the other calories into carbs to allow heavy training. Minimum Recommended Fat intake: Fat loss requires caloric restriction, and reduced calories mean reduced macros. When setting up a diet we need to be aware not to go too low on fat. Dangers of low fat intake: - Heart Problems - Vitamin Deficiency (ADEK) - Excessive Appetite - Mood Problems and Depression - Reduced testosterone and other hormone issues To prevent this aim for a minimum of 0,5 grams per kg of Bodyweight coming from fat per day. Fat intake for the Muscle gaining phase: In the higher caloric intake phase we can have fat as a higher percentage of total calories. Between 20-30% of calories come from fat is fine in this phase. Fat is very calorie dense at 9 kcal per 1 gram so adding a higher fat intake is recommended if you're struggling with getting in the calories. Some people operate better on a low carb / high fat diets. How do you figure out if that's you? There's a few genetic indicators but for the most part we need to test this out ourselves. High fat diet means that the percentage of calories coming from fat is higher than 35% of total intake as opposed to recommended 15-30% High fat diets would work for people with insulin resistance. There's a way to test yourself and I recommend trying this out if your family history of diabetes and if suspect that you operate better on a higher fat intake. How do you test? During the gaining phase for 1 month consume a 40-45% fat diet, while keeping protein and calories consistent.. So basically you're just changing your carbs to fat ratio. Then during this month keep an eye on and write down how you feel, what's your mood and energy level. Then when that month is complete for the second month setup your diet so 20% of calories come from fat while keeping calories and protein the same. Then a the end of the month compare how you felt in the each phase and if the higher fat worked better than the lower fat. It might seem hard to find out but it's definitely worth it because you'll finally know if a higher fat diet is something that works for you. That would be all for this video. Hope you enjoyed. Foods that will never make you fat! Healthy foods to eat which are low in calories and won’t make you gain weight when you eat them 10. Broccoli- Broccoli is a great healthy vegetable snack, not only it is low in calories, but it won’t make you gain any weight. In fact, it can help you lose weight by filling you up. A cup of this cooked vegetable is only 54 calories, and since it is 89 percent of water by weight, it aids in making you full fast. In addition, broccoli will help keep your digestion regular thanks to its fiber content. It’s also rich in vitamins K, C and A. You can start off by throwing some broccoli in a high fiber breakfast salad. Just remember to steer clear of the ranch, melted cheese or any other toppings as these fatty dressings can spike up the calorie content. Bear in mind that just eating broccoli alone in the morning, won’t make you lose weight if you’re on a diet. As with the other food items on this list, take into consideration of what other foods you’re eating and what exercises you’re practicing if you want to lose or stabilize your weight. 9. Plain, Lowfat Yogurt- Yogurt is an excellent tasty treat that aids with digestion and balances the bacteria in your stomach. But I know what you’re thinking, what’s so great about plain yogurt?! Well eating plain, unsweetened, low-fat yogurt is for the best because artificial flavorings are chock full of sugar that can contribute to weight gain. It’s important to stick to low fat instead of nonfat because when all of the natural fat is removed, other processed additives are thrown in to make it taste like regular yogurt. Not only is yogurt filling but it’s high in calcium. Scientists at the University of Knoxville have discovered that dietary calcium influences weight loss so high calcium foods preserve metabolism and heighten body fat breakdown. It’s also quick to eat and can be taken on the go. 8. Extra Firm Tofu- We’re not talking about regular tofu here, we’re talking about extra firm tofu. So what’s the difference? Well, extra firm tofu is a bean curd with lower water content than other types of tofu. It has more protein due to the presence of more soy, and it’s firm in texture, less crisp and virtually tasteless. Extra firm tofu is considered a slimming food because it is low in fat and low in calories. It is also a non animal high protein material that is rich in phosphorous and calcium that has a lot of magnesium and iron. Plus it’s versatile to cook; you can add it to a hot pot of soup, braise it, stew it or combine it with minced fish or use it to make tofu burger patties as a healthy alternative. If you’re not a big fan of extra firm tofu, you can go for silken, dried, sweet and fermented tofu to still get all the protein contents! 7. Apples- Fruits are essential to maintaining a healthy diet. Since apples are over 80% water, this replenishes volume and provides satiety without packing on extra calories. Pectin is a soluble fiber in the fruit that aids to slow down the digestion process and helps you feel full. Apples rank high on the satiety index, and a number of research findings conclude that eating fruit overall is linked to weight loss over time and lower calorie absorption. Another study observed the effect of consuming applesauce, apple slices or gulping some apple juice at the start of your meal. It was found that those people who ate substantial apple slices ate 91 lesser calories than those consuming applesauce and 150 lesser calories than those drinking apple juice. To sum it up, eating apple segments also ensued in higher fullness and lowered hunger and other forms of fruit. So what are you waiting for? Grab an apple and enjoy!

A Few Notes: • Fats are GOOD, but only certain types of fat and not in excessive amounts • A high fat diet, whether you are cooked or raw, is not healthy • High fat consumption is the #1 reason why so many fail at the raw diet. • While many think that sugar is the culprit to Candida, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, or even cancer, I will argue that fat creates a more negative affect on our bodies than any source of sugar. High Fat in Cooked Foods: • Americans typically consume 1/3 of their calories from fat. • For those that consume fast food sporadically (not daily), their fat intake is around 45%. (Please reference 80/10/10 by Dr. Douglas Graham). • Meats, grains, and other starchy foods contain higher fat than is healthful. • Not always visible, deceiving to the eye. • Be aware of what you are eating. • A little goes a long way. How much do we need? • I recommend no more than 10%, however, less is best in this case. • Point is that too many Americans eat a high fat diet. If we can reduce that, we drastically change the health of millions! How to avoid eating High Amounts of Fat: 1) Eat More Fruit (You eat FAT b/c you want to feel satisfied and to feel heavier). Fruits is higher in vitamins and minerals without the fat, and it fuels your body to keep you functioning properly. If your body is a car, then fruit is your fuel. Keep it running! 2) Avoid oils and other packaged fats. If you are going to eat them, eat nuts and seeds or softer fats in their natural forms rather than in oil or packaged forms. A good rule of thumb is to not eat more than a handful each day or every few days. 3) Don't keep it in your house! If it's there, you are more likely to eat it! Das ist wohl eines, meiner ehrlichsten und persönlichsten Videos. Es fiel mir sehr schwer, dieses Video zu drehen aber noch viel schwerer, mir im laufe der Monate meine Fehler einzugestehen. Aber nur so konnte ich gesund werden und mein Verhalten ändern. Dieses Video dient keinesfalls dazu, High carb low fat per se als schlecht abzustempeln. Kurzfristig funktioniert High carb low fat für jeden, so wie jede andere Ernährungsform. Langfristig birgt ein dauerhaft niedriger Fettkonsum, for allem für Frauen allerdings extrem viele Risiken, welche ich auch im Video anspreche. Ich empfehle euch die Fachliteratur aus meiner Infobox, oder jede andere Objektive, neutrale und evidenzbasierten Literaturquelle um euch über die Bedürfnisse und Physiologie eures Körpers zu Informieren. Bitte verwendet dazu wirklich Fachbücher und KEINE populistisch geschriebenen Guides und Abnehm-Wegweiser die nur ein bestimmtes Diätkonzept empfehlen. Ich will nochmal dazu aufrufen, dass ihr WIRKLICH auf euren Körper hört und nicht so handelt, wie ihr gerne hättet dass es wäre sondern eben so wie es euer Körper wirklich möchte. FYI: It is no longer on the Engine 2 website so here is the recipe. SORRY!! This is so good! If you want it sweeter then add more sweetener. We like it just the way it is. This recipe has been doubled. I have also made this with peaches and WOW! Winning! Trust me there was not nearly enough of this deliciousness it was gone in an hour. My kids love the sweet and sour of this when you add those cranberries. If you just want it sweet than stick to the blueberries. Ingredients: 1 1/3 C organic whole wheat pastry flour 3 t baking powder 2 t vanilla 1 1/3 C soy milk, (I have used almond, rice, cashew, coconut milk with this recipe. I would say almond and soy are the best) 1/3 C maple syrup 2 cup berries. I used a frozen berry salad of blueberries, cranberries, raspberries, blackberries. If you use fresh berries bake for 5 min less. Bake for 45-50 in at 350 degrees. Let cool for 30 min then cut and enjoy!
